We have an 11 year old who just passed the first exam at ISF and has been invited back for the verbal interview. Any ideas on what kinds of things they will be asked during this verbal interview? I'd like to practice with her a little bit before she gets there. HC

Don't worry about it; I'm sure she will be fine as ISF's intake of new students in the secondary school is always pretty low so they will be very receptive of any applicants. In the next few years it may pick up if and when they get their DP program running well.

Hi Howardcoombs, I am a ISF parent (upper primary). I don't have any first hand information about secondary admission but heard from the secondary school parents that only ten out of the 60 something applicants for the places in grades 7 to 10 got admitted. The school's policy in this respect is very clear: Applicants must pass both the written and oral assessments. Vacancies will be left vacant instead of being filled by somewhat not up to the par applicants. Competition for places in the primary is far more keen. There were over 800 applications for the foundation year places. When the results were out, there was a scramble for the capital notes among parents who did not get offers in the first around. The notes are now trading at over two million HKD. I am not sure you are aware of the blog of gweipo (gewipo.blogspot.com). She has two kids at ISF. I consider what she says about ISF fair and interesting. Read her blog and you will have a better idea. Also read the comments left by others for different views.
